Read on to find out whether organic milk is really the healthier choice.
On the Subject of Antibiotics in Milk
The USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) doesn’t approve milk that contains traces of antibiotic residual. Therefore, both organic milk and its conventional counterpart are absolutely free of antibiotics. Additionally, the Pesticide Data Program tests both types of milk and ensures that all pesticide residue is at a much lower level than the proposed limits. For that reason, daily consumers can rest assured that both organic and conventional milk are safe for consumption.
And What About Nutrition?
Research studies have shown that organic milk contains more vitamin E, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids than traditional options. However, conventional milk has more iodine and selenium. Since milk’s not considered a significant source of either vitamin E or iron, you might want to hunt for these nutrients elsewhere (almonds, salmon, sunflower seeds, and so on). Another study has concluded that organic milk doesn’t possess any substantial advantages over conventional milk. Therefore, the cost of organic milk doesn’t really justify its cost.
Save Money by Opting for Conventional Milk
At the end of the day, the choice between conventional or organic milk boils down to individual preferences and financial constraints. However, it's important to keep in mind that both options are equally safe and nutritious.
