The Lemon Blueberry Loaf from Costco's bakery has become the latest sensation, captivating the hearts and taste buds of loyal fans. Launched in April, this cake, adorned with fresh blueberries, a crumble topping, and a white glaze, quickly gained popularity among shoppers.
However, despite its immense fame, some Costco members are expressing disappointment due to significant consistency issues with the product, particularly the lack of its star ingredient: blueberries. Recently, a customer took to Reddit to call out Costco for what they referred to as a "loaf of lies." Their purchased cake had minimal blueberries, except for a few scattered on top.
This complaint prompted other Costco shoppers to chime in, sharing their own experiences of surprisingly sparse blueberries in their Lemon Blueberry Loaves.
"I completely agree. I bought one last Friday after hearing great things, but there were hardly any blueberries," one shopper commented.
"Mine was very lemony, but the blueberries were only at the bottom," another shopper added.
It's not just the shortage of blueberries that customers are dissatisfied with; some have also noticed shortcomings in other crucial elements of the loaf.
"I checked the loaves yesterday, and there was barely any crumble or glaze on top. The one we tried earlier was dry and lacked a distinct lemon flavor," shared another shopper.
While some customers have managed to obtain cakes that lived up to expectations in terms of blueberries, lemon flavor, crumble, and texture, the growing number of members reporting the opposite indicates that this is not an isolated incident. Costco customers speculate that the disparity between loaves packed with blueberries and those lacking them might simply be a result of execution or luck.
Responding to the Reddit post, one purported Costco bakery employee offered an explanation: "I believe you received a loaf from the bottom of a bowl that wasn't mixed properly. We add more blueberries and streusel on top after they are dropped."
The Lemon Blueberry Loaf appears to have caused a division among customers similar to the viral peanut butter chocolate pie, which surfaced in mid-March. While many fans flooded Reddit with rave reviews of the decadent dessert, others found it overly rich and sweet, describing it as "mediocre at best."
