Although there are lots of tasty ingredients you can add to your ideal mix, here are a few that you should skip, for health reasons.
Whipped Cream
If you’re a sugar fan, you shouldn’t overdo it when making or ordering a smoothie. One of the most common mistakes is adding whipped cream on top of your drink. The fruits you put in there already provide sweetness – whipped cream is both unnecessary and unhealthy.
Melons
As we’ve already mentioned, there are a ton of possibilities for making a first-class smoothie. There’s nothing wrong with experimenting with different fruit. However, avoid using melons. A major disadvantage is that it generally won’t blend well with other ingredients in the mix, leaving crumbs in your cup. If you’re looking for additional vitamin C, try using papaya instead.
Canned Fruit
A rule of thumb is that canned fruit is not meant for making a smoothie. These products are intended for cooking purposes instead. If you want a healthy smoothie, you should primarily rely on fresh fruit (apples, oranges, or bananas) that you can buy at the market.
If there’s a poor choice, you can go with a great alternative: frozen fruit.
Three Big Nos in Your Smoothie
Although smoothie choices are almost endless, there are a few ingredients that shouldn’t be a part of your mix: whipped cream, melons, and canned fruit. Avoid these and enjoy a healthy smoothie.
